Paprika has the almost same history with pepper cultivation, especially in Peru, types of traces of cultivating peppers have been found in the ruins over 2000 years, in which, we can guess, Columbus took it to Spain in 1493 and it was introduced to several subtropical Asian areas in the middle of 16th century.
In Korean history, it reads that paprika was introduced from Japan in 1614(the 6th year of King Gwanghaegun) and also introduced from China in 1710(the 36th year of King Sukjong), but there were actually peppers while the real paprika was introduced recently.

In view of class of paprika, the generic name, capsicum was originated from a Greek word, kapto while according to another opinion, it was often asserted that it was from a Latin word, capsa ,
which is probably thought as a name of pepper by types. In the meantime, it is known that the specific name, annuum means an annual plant and the English name, pimiento is from a Latin word, pigmentum

Scientific Name Capsicum annuum var. angulosum mill.
English Name Sweet pepper, Green pepper, Bell pepper, Pimiento
German Name Paprika
French Name Pament, Poivron
Japanese Name Paprika

Pepper can be subdivided into 6 major types: Bell or sweet pepper(var. grossum), Cone pepper(Tabasco, var. abbreviatum), Chili pepper(var, acuminatum), Cherry pepper(var. cerasiforme), Red cluster pepper(var. fasciculatum) and Long pepper(var. longum), and we improve, cultivate and use the very hot cone pepper and chili pepper. As normal pepper we can see easily around us turns red from green, paprika turns red and orange as it is matured.
